Will I need a vehicle while I’m working in Calgary?
The short answer is, most likely. You’ll want to explore our city – and the neighboring Rocky Mountains – during your time here. Since Calgary is 825 sq. km in size and the Rockies are an hour’s drive away, you’ll find that having your own vehicle will make life easier.
How can I get a vehicle?

My visa is only for one year. Can I still rent a vehicle?
Yes! We offer rentals for 6, 12, 18, 24, 36 months, or however long your stay may be. When your visa has expired, you can simply return the car to us.
Do I need to have Canadian credit to rent a vehicle?
You can rent a vehicle without established Canadian credit, although we will need a few details from you. You can fill out a credit application HERE.
How do I get an Alberta Driver’s license?
You will need a valid driver’s license. If you are from Northern Ireland, you may obtain an Alberta driver’s license from any registry office in Calgary if you bring the following items:

What else do I need to own and drive a vehicle in Calgary?
Vehicles must be registered with the Alberta government, which can be done through any registry office in Calgary. This is approximately $90 CDN per vehicle.
The vehicle must also be insured, and we can help you find an insurance agent. Note: rates will vary depending on your age and the type of vehicle you’re renting.

What is it like to drive in Calgary?
Calgary is a prosperous, rapidly growing city and, like any city, there is congestion during peak hours. However, Calgary is known for keeping its roadways in good repair and diligently plows major routes during the winter.
Calgary does not have any toll bridges or freeways, and Albertans pay the lowest fuel prices in Canada.
